NOISE MMP 2011-2012: OKTO SHOOT

Okto will be featuring the latest round of Noise mentees and their mentors in an upcoming program. For the segment involving my mentees viz. Maricelle (left) and Ming See (right) and myself, director Lee had originally planned to shoot us at a playground at Dakota Crescent but due to inclement weather we had to move indoors.

We ended up at Backbeat Studio where it was nice and dry. It was an interesting shoot (and we might have video of that in due course) and I personally was gratified to be involved especially in a sequence that witnessed Maricelle and Ming See improve directly on their music presentation right there in front of me. Pretty awesome.

The program will be broadcast in February. Keep a look-out for future performances of Maricelle and Ming See coming up very soon. More photos here.

THE CHEAT SHEET - 18 DEC 2011

THE CHEAT SHEET

Yes, we have an appropriate moniker for our emailer now thanks to Christopher Ong. Thanks, Chris! The Cheat Sheet, it is!

Well, we hope that you have been safe during the past week of train disruptions and we'd like to offer you some comfort with good news and good music.

We want to thank Clement Yang and all at Hood Bar & Cafe for letting the Sons rock out at their cool little venue on Saturday, 10th December. The gig started a little slowly but by the end - after two encores - everybody was well pleased by what they'd witnessed! You can check out gig photos at http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150414902587011.355278.599252010&type=3 courtesy of Martin Chua. Thanks, Martin!

The latest word on the new album recording is that the new songs are sounding fantastic with LA producer Manny Nieto at the helm. Hopefully basic tracking will be completed by the end of this coming week. We will keep you posted of the progress. You can expect to hear the new songs in late March 2012 when the Sons play the Esplanade Recital Studio. Keep that final week of March free, friends!

Coming up on this Wednesday, 21st December, will be what looks like the Sons' final performance in 2011 at The Pigeonhole located at 52/53 Duxton Road. The Sons will play an intimate acoustic set of old favorites and new offerings. Come on down and meet the Sons, take pictures and get CDs autographed. The first album - Masters, Wives, Daughters - will be on sale for S$16. Hope to see as many of you there from about 8pm.

In the meantime, we have uploaded a video of the Sons' performance of 'Jefferson' at the Strawberry Music Festival at Cheng Jiang in October this year. You can watch it at http://youtu.be/z82VoYQCSwU. Please share with friends and family for this holiday season!

Well, that's it for this week. Stay safe and we'll see you soon.

CHEATING SONS MAILING LIST

Hey there!

We've finally put this mailing list together from folks who kindly purchased and downloaded our songs from Bandcamp. We're trying to come up with a fancy name for this mailer so we would appreciate any suggestions if you get a 'lightbulb' moment.

Last night, the Sons played a electrifying full set at Hood Bar (55 Keong Saik Road) with two encores to boot! If you missed that (and why oh why?) then you have another chance come the 21st of December when the Sons play an intimate, acoustic set at Pigeonhole (52/53 Duxton Road). This is a good chance to meet the Sons, take photos with them, get them to autograph your CDs and if you haven't already, pick up a copy of the Sons' debut album, Masters Wives Daughter.

The Sons are currently in the midst of recording its second album with noted LA producer Manny Nieto, who has previously worked with the Breeders, Darker my Love and Health and making preparations for overseas appearances in the coming new year! We hope to keep you posted on all the latest developments in the world of Cheating Sons.

Of course, if you'd like your email to be removed from this mailer, please reply to this email with the word 'unsubscribe', and we will do the necessary. But we hope you'd stay... more news to come...

Thanks & regards

Check out the video of So Easily below.

KEVIN MATHEWS WITH DEBRA

KAMCO MUSIC artists Kevin Mathews and Debra will be performing 5 sets at the Esplanade Concourse over Sun, 23rd and Mon, 24th October.

Times as follow: -

Sun: 5.15pm, 6.15pm & 7.15pm

The concept of the shows is to highlight the 'teacher-student' relationship between Kevin and Debra as they have been working together since February 2010. LYDIA LOW - ELECTRIC

Lydia Low is fairly 'new' to the S-ROCK fraternity but her music reveals a sensibility one might expect from a singer-songwriter more mature than her barely two decades of existence would suggest. Drawing inspiration from the English indie folk scene in the creation of her self-styled 'pocket-sized songs', the five tracks on her debut EP - Electric Flower - arrives as a breath of fresh air.

KAMCO Music is proud to present the first track off Electric Flower, the powerpop confection that is "Electric". The song is now streaming at Soundcloud with the downloadable track to be made available at Bandcamp in due course. Stay tuned as Electric Flower continues to be rolled out over the next couple of days...

KEVIN MATHEWS LIVE @ BROUN CAFE

I will be performing two sets at Broun Cafe on Wednesday, 22nd June. The first set begins at 7.30pm. I am going to explore old and new material and both sets will be different. Possibly debut one or two new songs as well. So I hope that people who enjoy my songwriting will find the time to get down to Broun Cafe in North Canal Road (opposite Hong Lim Park). I am quite committed to performing more live acoustic shows, so do get in touch at kamcomusic@gmail.com if you are interested in giving me a time and place to play.

ALL CHANGE!

So I have decided to put KAMCO Music somewhat on hiatus. Not that it was doing anything on a grand scale to begin with but really I need to focus on work that actually generates an income. At the moment, KAMCO Music does not... pure and simple. So what's the point?

Well, originally, the idea was to extend my mentorship of some of my Noise apprentices into more proper management arrangement but since most of them actually rejected my offer of management or even just completely snubbing me altogether (yeah really!), I seem to be barking up the wrong tree, so to speak.

So KAMCO Music is going to sleep, more or less. I will continue to work with people on a professional consultancy basis (i.e. paid) and that will be that. All previous arrangements will cease to exist from July onwards after the latest round of Black and Broun sessions. That is that, I guess.

Of course, KAMCO Music will continue to be the contact for my own freelance music work so you can still get in touch with me at kamcomusic@blogspot.com if you want to commission any musical work through me.

Thanks for your kind support always.

CASHEW CHEMISTS

Just a short note to announce that KAMCO Music is no longer managing Cashew Chemists with immediate effect.

Narisa Chan @ Black

KAMCO Music made its debut at Black Cafe when Narisa played two sets on Thursday, 5th Jan. Here's her account of what went on...

There wasn't really anyone around so I just messed around. Hurhur. Everything was really muffled. I dunno whether it was the mega-cheapo quarter-inch cable I'd bought the day before or the system itself though.

Arrived about 5.30pm. Chatted with Rachael (Teo). She said the manager was sick so she was covering for her and was really tired since she'd been there pre-sunrise. Got some Earl Grey. Soundchecked with 1st verse and chorus of Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah which Rachael begged me to play but I didn't have the lyrics. She also begged me to play Fight. but I don't like mixing covers and originals and in any case, I didn't bring my guitar.

Set-lists

6-6.20pm
Follow you into the dark-Gavin Mikhail
Vincent-Don Mclean
Stop crying your heart out (the Leona Lewis version)
Someone to watch over me (old 50's/60's era song)

Daughters-John Mayer

In your eyes-Kylie Monogue (coz her concert is coming)
Mr Sandman-The chordettes (old 50's/60's era song)

Eye of the tiger-Survivor (In the spirit of the election and parties and candidates fighting for votes. I was gonna do The Final Countdown by Europe but after a while I realised it was abit too difficult for me to do alone. heh)
Spin-Lifehouse
Days Gone by-Gavin Mikhail
Top of the World-Carpenters
Into the West-Annie Lennox (from the soundtrack of The Lord of the Rings:The return of the King)

The songs I'll be playing with Suzan will be completely different. I thought since I was going solo yesterday I could do whatever songs I wanted. haha.
