EMO FASCISM REVIEW FROM ZALLEN
From the opening Ryan Adamsesque "Silver" to the Elton John inspired "Cliche", Emo FASCISM is a melodic joy.
I'm not a professional music critic but I have been a professional musician for more years than I care to mention with my music licensed to over 100 TV shows and I know great songwriting when I hear it.
Kevin Mathews new CD Emo FASCISM is a true gem. Every tune slyly pulls you in until you find yourself humming along. When was the last time that happened to you? I don't believe I have heard a consistently well written melodic album like this in a long time.
Kevin's vocals shine on every tune with a rich tonal quality and the production sits comfortably in the Goldilocks zone, never overpowering, suited to each tune and just right. The emphasis on lovely acoustic guitar arrangements is the icing on the cake.
If I had to choose a favorite tune and the "Hit" single because my life depended on it lol, I would say the Lennonesque "Liars In Love". Hell, upon repeated listening I think this tune is as close to perfect as you can get. Love the Emo crunchy guitars, the Beatlesque piano, the swooning backing vocals and strings, and Kevin's perfect falsetto in the chorus.
Throw your happy pills away, forget that next drink, if you're in need of a mood correction, trust me, just give Emo FASCISM a spin.
